What makes a bat custom?
A custom bat order is any order in which the customer specifies one or more individual requirements.
- Bat weight, in pounds and ounces.
- Blade profile, including low, mid, or high spine.
- Handle type, including round, oval, or semi-oval.
- Handle length, including short, standard, or long handle.
- Edge thickness and toe shape.
- Custom toe guard colour or finish.
- Personalised branding, name, or sticker design.
- Any other specification agreed in writing at the time of order.
Standard catalogue bats purchased without modification are not considered custom orders and are subject to our standard Returns & Refunds Policy.
From consultation to confirmation.
Before placing a custom bat order, we strongly recommend discussing your requirements with our team. Our craftsmen can advise on suitable specifications based on your playing style, height, preferred stroke play, and the type of cricket you play.
You can reach us at malik@wdawillow.co.uk or +44 7880 578057.
Production will not commence until both written approval and cleared deposit payment have been received.
Deposit & payment terms.
Non-refundable deposit.
All custom bat orders require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total agreed order value prior to commencement of production.
This deposit covers the cost of willow selection, seasoning, pressing, and initial shaping specific to your order.
The deposit is strictly non-refundable once production has commenced, regardless of the reason for cancellation. If you cancel your order before production has begun, we will review eligibility for a partial or full refund of the deposit on a case-by-case basis.
Balance payment.
The remaining 50% balance is due prior to dispatch of the completed bat. We will contact you when your bat is ready and issue a payment request for the outstanding balance.
Dispatch will not occur until the full balance has been received and cleared.
Payment methods.
We accept payment by bank transfer, debit card, credit card, and other methods as listed on our website. All payments must be made in British Pounds Sterling (GBP).
Any bank charges or currency conversion costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Made by hand. Made to order.
Lead times are estimates only and may vary depending on current order volume, willow availability, and the complexity of your specifications.
We will keep you informed of your order’s progress and notify you promptly of any delays.
WDA Willow does not guarantee specific completion dates unless expressly agreed in writing. Delays in production do not entitle the customer to cancel the order or reclaim the deposit.
Natural variation is part of the craft.
Each WDA Willow custom bat begins with the careful hand-selection of premium English willow clefts. Customers who visit our workshop are welcome to participate in the cleft selection process by prior appointment.
English willow is a natural material and exhibits inherent variation. The following characteristics are natural properties of willow and are not considered defects:
- Minor surface cracking or checking on the face or back of the blade.
- Variation in grain colour, density, or spacing between bats.
- Small blemishes, marks, or discolouration in the willow.
- Minor asymmetry in grain alignment.
- Slight variation in the final weight within an agreed tolerance of +/- 0.25 oz.
These natural characteristics do not affect the performance, durability, or quality of the bat and do not qualify as manufacturing defects for the purposes of a return or refund.
Changes after confirmation.
Once your order has been confirmed in writing and production has commenced, changes to specifications cannot be guaranteed.
Please contact us immediately at malik@wdawillow.co.uk if you wish to request a change.
- Minor changes, such as grip colour or sticker design, may be accommodated at no additional charge if requested before that stage of production.
- Significant changes, such as blade profile, weight, or handle type, after pressing or shaping has commenced may not be possible.
- If a significant change is possible, an additional charge may apply and the lead time may be extended.
Your bat, before it leaves us.
Upon completion of your custom bat, we will contact you with photographs and a description of the finished product for your review and approval before dispatch.
You will have 5 working days to review and confirm acceptance or raise any concerns. If no response is received within this period, we will proceed with dispatch.
If the bat materially differs from the agreed specifications, we will take appropriate remedial action.
If the bat conforms to agreed specifications and any variation is due to natural willow characteristics, we will explain this and proceed with dispatch.
Cancelling a custom order.
Before production.
If you wish to cancel before production has commenced, please notify us in writing as soon as possible. We will review your eligibility for a refund of the deposit.
Any materials already sourced or prepared for your order may be deducted from any refund considered.
After production has commenced.
Once production has commenced, cancellations will result in the forfeiture of the full 50% deposit.
If production is near completion, the full order value may be required depending on costs already incurred.
Cancellation by WDA Willow.
WDA Willow reserves the right to cancel a custom order in exceptional circumstances, including unavailability of suitable willow or non-payment.
In such cases, any deposit paid will be refunded in full within 14 days.
When a custom bat can be returned.
Custom-made cricket bats are non-returnable and non-refundable except where:
- The bat contains a confirmed manufacturing defect that materially affects its structural integrity or usability.
